Sarah got a job in Jacksonville!

Our future in Jacksonville is now a bit more certain.  After applying for over 40 jobs and participating in countless interviews, I finally got a job with the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists in Jacksonville, Florida.  I will be working as Public and Media Relations Assistant.
David and I are so excited!  By getting this job, David will be able to finish his Communication (advertising) degree at the University of North Florida and I will gain professional public relations experience.
Thank you all for your prayers!

Grace and Peace,
Sarah

Wedding Pictures and Details of our Wedding Day

Hello everyone!
We finally got our wedding photos back and we wanted to share them with all of you.  We are very pleased with the outcome.  Each photo so beautifully describes our day-from getting ready to our first dance to the moment when we left our reception.  If you weren't able to make it to our wedding, we hope that these pictures allow you to capture the joyful essence of such a wonderful day.  ENJOY!

The wedding ceremony was held at Oakleaf Christian Fellowship in Orange Park, Florida.  The setting wasn't exactly traditional.  OCF meets in a renovated warehouse with concrete floors and stage lighting.  On paper, the church doesn't sound like an ideal venue for wedding, but don't be deceived.  The church was set up so beautifully and the pictures emphasize that.  The intimacy created by the lighting, stage design, flowers, and music made our ceremony personal and special for each of our guests.  Clay Tillman from Anything with Plants and Flowers designed the flower arrangements and added the trees to the stage.  I love stargazer lilies because David gave me a bouquet of them for my 21st birthday.  Clay made these lilies the centerpiece of every floral arrangement-from the bouquets to the urns placed on either side of the kneeling
bench.  Candles adorned the modern screens set up on stage.  The groomsmen lit them just before the ceremony began.  Brian Wages, the worship leader from OCF performed the song "Take My Life" as our grandparents, our mothers, and bridal party entered the sanctuary.  Stephanie Ayres, who also created the wedding day up-dos, sang "Be Thou My Vision," accompanied by Brian Wages, as I was escorted down the aisle by my dad.  It was such a wonderful moment!

The ceremony progressed through a scripture reading from the book of Colossians, the ministers homily and our vows.  David and I decided that as our first act of marriage we would take communion together.  As David and I knelt on the bench, David's cousin Benjamin sang "How Beautiful" and our guests began roaring in laughter.  Why you may ask.  Well, the groomsmen decided to write "HELP ME" on the bottom of David's shoes with white out.
It was so funny.  Everyone thought I'd be upset, but every wedding needs a little comic relief, of some variety.  Thank goodness my dress wasn't tucked in my slip!  After communion and still while Benjamin sang, we performed the Unity Sand Ceremony.  Then it was official.  With a blessing from the book of Romans and a kiss, we were pronounced husband and wife.

Then came the party.  As some of you may know, planning this wedding wasn't exactly smooth sailing.  We decided to move the reception just eight days before the wedding from the church to the Winterbourne at Club Continental.
This historic house, set on the St. Johns River, was a gorgeous backdrop for our reception.  David and I arrived at the reception in a limo-termed "the Land Yacht."  We greeted some of our guests and then took pictures by the river with our bridal party and by ourselves.  Soon after, we made our way inside to introduced and share our first dance.  We danced to "You are so Beautiful" by Joe Cocker.  After eating, it was time to dance- songs including, "Dancing Queen," "The Cha-Cha Slide," "Jump" and an interesting rendition of "Beat It."

Our wedding day was special for more than one reason.  It was my grandmother's 75th birthday.  After the best man and maid of honor offered their toasts, David asked all of our guests to join and sing Happy Birthday to a very special lady.  Granny was so surprised and I'm glad that we could bless her as much as she's blessed us.  Following the cutting of our cake and a classy cake fight, there was more dancing including a personal favorite, "The Chicken Dance," "The Electric Slide," and the "YMCA."  Alli, our emcee called all the couples in the room to the dance floor for a special dance- the Couple's Dance-to the song "Unforgettable."  David's grandparents won.  They've been married over 50 years.  Next, the bouquet toss and garter toss... David went "diving" for the garter.  My former roommate, Shailyn caught the bouquet and our good friend, Mike caught the garter.  It was a great reception and a fun way to lead up to our grand exit.  A shower of bubbles sent us on our way as we climbed into the limo.

July 19, 2008 was an amazing day!  It was more than we could ever ask for.  We are so happy that we moved our reception.  We were able to spend more time with our family and friends and the charm of the late-1800s house proved to be the special element we wanted our wedding day to include.  We hope if your weren't able to make it to our wedding that this description made you feel like you were there.  Thank you to everyone for all of your love and support.  David and I are so blessed to have each of you in our lives.

We've posted a slideshow with some of the wedding photos.  If you are interested in seeing more visit www.labranchephotography.com.  Click on "Clients," then "Weddings."  Look for "Sarah and David."  The password is "Senn."
Grace and Peace to everyone!

We're Back!

Hello all...

First of all, we would like to thank you all for everything you have done and continue to do for us.  Thank you to everyone who was able to come to our wedding and support us on the biggest day of our lives.  We really had a wonderful time and enjoyed the dancing, laughter, and fellowship that came with the day.

We went to Seattle, Washington for our honeymoon.  We stayed at the Alexis Hotel downtown. We spent Monday in and around the city. We saw the Fremont Troll, a Seattle mainstay, and drove around a little bit.  We went to West Seattle, which offers a beautiful panoramic view of the city.

We drove up to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on Tuesday for the day.  (It took a while to get used to seeing speed limit signs with kilometers per hour posted instead of miles per hour.)  We went to Stanley Park, Lighthouse Park, and Whytecliff Park.  Whytecliff Park was absolutely beautiful.  We saw a wild harbor seal and were able to get about 5 feet away from it.  We also saw and touched the Pacific Ocean, a first for both of us.

On Wednesday, we stayed in Seattle.  We went to the downtown Harley-Davidson shop to get David a shirt to add to his ever-growing collection, then we went to the Seattle Art Museum. They had a wonderful traveling exhibit called Inspiring Impressionism.  We saw paintings by Renoir, Degas, Manet, and Monet, just to name a few.  There was a permanent piece called Some/One, which was an armor-like metal coat made from thousands of military dog tags.  It shows the juxtaposition of the collective, a giant coat of armor, versus the individual, represented by each tiny dog tag.  We then went to Pike Place Market and saw everything that you can possibly imagine, from salmon and Dungeness crab fresh from Puget Sound to fresh lavender to paintings done by local artisans.  We walked through the entire market and then went to the Seattle Aquarium.  We saw everything from brightly colored starfish to a giant octopus in one building, and birds, sea otters, and seals in another building.  For dinner that night we went to Elliott's Oyster House on Pier 56 on the waterfront.  The food was excellent and the service was great.  Our meal ended up costing about $125 after tip, but that included drinks, appetizer, salad, and entree.  We would definitely recommend Elliott's to anyone going to Seattle.  After dinner we went to the original Starbucks at Pike Place Market, and then drove to Queen Anne, just north of Seattle to view the downtown skyline the way that it is shown on postcards (where the Space Needle looks like it is in the middle of the city, when in reality it is several blocks from the main area of downtown).

On Thursday we drove about two hours north of Seattle to Whidbey Island to see our friends Nick and Sherry.  We had lunch with them and hung out with them for a little while.  On the way to their house, we stopped at Deception Pass, which features a 180 foot tall bridge over water.  After lunch, we headed to Anacortes, about 25 minutes away, to go whale watching.  We went with Island Adventures, and spent nearly 5 hours on the water.  It was Sarah's first time ever on a boat on open water, and she did quite well for a first-timer, especially when we hit the wake of another boat and started getting tossed around.  We saw two Minke whales and three Orcas.  We spent a little over an hour with the Orcas, and saw a Minke interacting directly with the Orcas.  The captain of the boat said that he had never seen that kind of interaction until this summer.  After whale watching, we went back to Nick and Sherry's and ate dinner and played board games.  We ended up staying at their house until nearly 1 a.m. and then drove two hours back to Seattle.

On Friday, we went to Pike Place Market again.  We bought a few paintings and just walked around a bit more.  We went back to Queen Anne to take more pictures, but this time it was during the day, instead of at night like the first time, so our pictures come out much better.  We then drove to the Seattle-Tacoma airport to pick up David's cousin Benjamin, who was returning home to Seattle after flying to Jacksonville to sing in our wedding.  We went to dinner with him and then took him home.  We drove from there to West Seattle again, then back to the hotel.

On Saturday, we returned our rental car and took a cab to the airport.  We left Seattle at 12:30 p.m. PDT and didn't get into Jacksonville until 12:15 a.m. EDT.  David's dad picked us up from the airport and drove us home, and we slept at David's parents' house until noon on Sunday.

All in all, we had a wonderful time on our honeymoon.  A few useful tips to anyone who might want to travel to Seattle in the future:

1.)  Work out before you go...  Seattle is the second hilliest city in the United States behind San Francisco.  The hills will wear you out if you aren't used to strenuous leg workouts.

2.)  Stay at the Alexis Hotel...  It is a beautiful artsy hotel located just a short walk from anywhere in the downtown Seattle area.  It is a bit pricey, but so worth every penny.

3.)  Island Adventures whale watching rocks...  The captain and onboard naturalist mix education and whale watching with humor, and the boat is large enough that you don't feel cramped, even with a hundred other people on board.

4.)  Give plenty of time for security at the airport when you leave...  Security backs up a long way...  we got in the shortest line and it still took us nearly half an hour to get through... the long line was taking over an hour.

5.)  Have fun, and interact with the locals...  People will tell you the best places to eat, the best things to see, and anything else they know about the city.  One guy even made us reservations at a really nice restaurant.  Unfortunately, we didn't get to go, but we will definitely make a point of going the next time we are in Seattle.

Thank you all again from the bottom of our hearts for everything!  You all mean so much to us, and we can't wait to see you in the very near future.  We will keep this blog updated, so keep checking for updates.

Attention all...

It just occurred to Sarah and I that some of you who might want to comment on our blog may be unable to do so without creating an account of your own.  To deal with this, we enabled comments for anyone, not just those with Blogger accounts.  So, comment away, and we will keep you updated as things continue to progress.  We will post a blog soon regarding hotels, attractions, etc. in the Jacksonville area.

Updates

So... the Save the Dates are in the mail.  We are just a little over four months away from the "Big Day."  We're working on ordering invitations.  Hopefully we'll send those out in late April.
Soon... David and I will be posting information about the Jacksonville area and things to do while you're here, if you are coming from out of town.  If you didn't know, Jacksonville is the largest land mass city in the United States.  There is so much to do and see.  We're just over 2 hours from Savannah, about 3 from Cape Canaveral and about 2 hours from Disney World. Oh... and did I mention that we're just minutes from the beach?

We will also post links to hotels where you can stay.

If you have any questions about the wedding events or the area, just ask.  We hope you can make it!

Sarah

Update...

Hello all... David here. I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and all that comes along with them. You know family time and all that jazz is wonderful, but come on, we all know that things wouldn't be the same without the awesome food (and way too much of it, may I add). Anywho, I hope the beginning of 2008 is treating you all well. Wedding plans are coming right along. Sarah got her dress, we were finally able to round up enough of the fabric for the bridesmaids dresses, and the honeymoon is officially booked. We are still working on getting the Save the Date cards out, so keep watching for those to come in. Again, we hope that 2008 is treating you all well so far and we look forward to seeing all of you in the very near future.

Love,

The future Mr. and Mrs. David Senn
